Spotlight on Jebel Ali Industry Area

The Jebel Ali industrial area has seen rapid expansion in recent years, with its close proximity to the World Expo 2020 site in Dubai South. The labor camp community in the area has also seen substantial growth.

Here we will detail the positives and potential downsides to choosing Jebel Ali as the location to house your workers.

Positives

  1. Up and coming area

The area is constantly developing with new camps regularly coming to the market. There is high demand in the area, but it possible to find very good deals on accommodation in this area. It is a buyer’s market, with options to rent out full camps.

Moving into a new camp comes with its own advantages and challenges, have a look at our previous post for more information.

  1. Accessibility

Jebel Ali is only 10km from the site of the 2020 Dubai Expo. JAFZA (Jebel Ali Free Zone), a hub for new and growing companies, is on your doorstep.

The industrial area is easily accessible from two of the city’s main motorways, Al Khail Road and Sheikh Zayed Road. This makes it easy to transport your laborers to your worksite and there is ample parking around the camps. Additionally, Jebel Ali is approximately 25km from Dubai Maktoum Airport and 14km from Jebel Ali Port.

Downsides

  1. On-going construction

As the area is still under development, there is constant construction in the area. As a result, there is often traffic congestion due to building works and roadworks. It is also dusty and the roads are not well developed.

  1. Lack of Retail Options

As with any new area, there are limited retail outlets and malls. However, new supermarkets and recreational facilities for workers are opening regularly. There is currently no metro line within walking distance of Jebel Ali Industrial Area.

Other popular areas in Dubai for labor accommodation include Al Quoz, Dubai Investment Park(DIP) and Sonapur.
